About CCGA
A story of a vibrant golf association in GTA Chinese Canadian community

In 1992, two Taiwanese beginner golfers, Thomas Tu and Sam Lin, unintentionally meet at the practice box in a beautiful autumn afternoon at the Top-of-the-Tee driving range (Northeast corner of Steeles Ave W. & Mississauga Road). After a long chat about golf, their hometown of Taipei, and their family and business in North America which lasted until dusk, a regular golf practice between the two was started. Thereafter, this practice session evolved into a group of Chinese golfers gathering regularly at Brampton Formosa Restaurant which was owned by Thomas Tu.

Before long, Mr. Raymond Lee – a die-hard golfer and successful businessman proposed to form a golf association as a platform for fellow Chinese golfers to play regularly in a tournament setting and for family members to expand their social network through various non-golf social activities such as BBQs and dinner parties.

On February 28, 1993, 36 golf enthusiasts attended the first general members meeting and the Canadian Chinese Golfers Association was born. Mr. Raymond Lee was elected President while Mr. Thomas Tu was elected Vice President for the year of 1993-1994.  Immediately after the first general meeting, Raymond called his steering committee together to work on the association’s by-laws, bi-weekly tournament schedule and social activities for family members.

The new, fledgling golf association was built from the ground up under his leadership and the hard work of the committee members; the score card and highlights of the 1993 season included:
12 tournaments for 19 members who had at least one year of golf experience
Five special 9-hole tournaments and six training practices for 17 beginner golfers
Four dinner parties, three winter social activities and one BBQ social for all the members
This was an exhausting yet exciting first season of the CCGA and it laid a very solid foundation for the association to grow. Lastly and most importantly, the CCGA became a big family for all members.

Welcome to the 2019 golf season ! CCGA is a golf club where members get to play with their old friends while welcoming new members. I would like to thank our sponsors, the executive team and all those volunteers that help us for another successful year. I hope you all have lots of fun on the golf course.
